Album

The new album DEAR JOHN is certified carbon negative, thanks to my friends at Earthed Consulting

Carbon negative means removing more carbon from the atmosphere than you emit. Different than the often celebrated “carbon neutral” approach, making my business carbon negative has been a goal for a long time because, well, we’ve reached the point of no return. Carbon neutral simply isn’t going to cut it anymore.

While big corporations are dragging their feet, individuals and small businesses are picking up the slack. It’s not right, but we HAVE to do what we can to make a difference. Change can be slow, but we’re running out of time.

I worked with Earthed to calculate mine and my collaborators carbon emissions during writing, preproduction, recording and pressing the album on CD & vinyl. They made it SO easy, I was slapping myself on the forehead for dragging MY feet for so long 🤦‍♀️

The project emitted approximately 4.9 tonnes of CO2 and I purchased 10 carbon credits for $200, making the album carbon negative (this is equivalent to taking 4 cars off the road or taking 2 homes off the electricity grid for a year. Or planting 70 trees).

Earthed helped me source the carbon credits from the Noosa Restoration Project, in partnership with the Kabi Kabi people, traditional owners of the Sunshine Coast region in Australia (just a few hours from where I live).

I chose this project because it combines climate action with reconciliation action and, in my opinion, all environmental choices in this country should be made by or, at least, in partnership with Indigenous Australians ♥️💛🖤

The project restores legally protected native rainforest, creates koala habitat, replaces monoculture plantation with the biodiverse native ecosystem and delivers social, cultural and economical benefits to Traditional Owners.

Here’s the breakdown of carbon emissions for the DEAR JOHN album

Tour

I have been touring the DEAR JOHN album since May 2022… and will keep going until November 2023 🎶

Earthed are helping me track carbon emissions on the road and we’re tallying everything up and sourcing carbon credits.

The DEAR JOHN tour is ongoing so, once I have final figures, I’ll update this page with all the details.

This whole process is made SO simple and easy, thanks to Jen and James at Earthed. If you want your business to have a positive impact on the environment, I really can’t recommend their services more highly.

Future

Um, yeah, OF COURSE I’ll be touring more after November 2023.

And recording.

And all the other things.

I’m making plans to ensure all future projects, tours and business activities are carbon negative. This is a bit more fiddly, a bit of a longer process, and it costs a bit more money.

So, I’m not there yet - but it’s on the way. And I’ll update you here on the progress 💚
