Hi, I’m Sam 😊
I don’t know about you, but I’ve spent a lot of time feeling like I don’t fit in in this world.
I’m clearly not against technology (my whole career exists because of the internet 😆), or work (um, hello, I love my job 🎶) or many of the modern things that have been invented to make our lives “better” or “easier” (I, for one, am very grateful for washing machines).
But I often look around at the world I live in and think “this is weird”.
We’ve built so many conveniences that we now think we need them to survive.
We’re surrounded by so much technology that we opt-out of time with real humans in favour of our phones.
We have way more food, drinks and other substances available to us, at all times of the day, than our bodies can handle - but so much of it makes us feel like sh*t.
And the food that makes our bodies feel amazing is sprayed with chemicals, or called “boring”, or priced in a way that makes it inaccessible to so many people.
And don’t even get me started on money! We get so WEIRD about it.
But what happens when we take all that away?
Who are we?
I’m not a scientist, but here’s how i see it:
We are animals. Brilliantly evolved, over hundreds of thousands of years, to live in harmony with nature — if you're counting from when anatomically modern Homo sapiens emerged.
And in the grand scheme of things, the “modern” world is ridiculously new.
The Agricultural Revolution began 12,000 years ago. Humans moved from nomadic hunter-gatherers (who largely took what nature offered) to settling, clearing land, controlling water, and bending ecosystems to our will (most historians and anthropologists point to here as the real departure from living in harmony with nature).
Then we saw The Industrial Revolution (300 years ago). Fossil fuels, factories, mass production, urbanisation. If agriculture was the first step away from nature, industrialisation was the sprint.
And 75 years ago began The Great Acceleration. Post-WWII, everything spiked simultaneously — CO₂, species loss, plastic, population, consumption. Many scientists mark this as the start of the Anthropocene (the age where humans are the dominant force reshaping the planet).
Evolution (to catch up with and adapt to a new environment) usually takes (as a general rules of thumb):
Simple traits, strong pressure — can shift in as few as 1,000–10,000 generations
Complex behavioural or physiological adaptation — typically 100,000+ years
Full species-level adaptation to a radically new environment — often millions of years
For humans specifically, a generation is roughly 25–30 years, so:
10,000 generations = ~250,000–300,000 years
We've only had agriculture for ~480 generations
We've only had industrial life for ~12 generations
The uncomfortable implication is that we have had essentially zero evolutionary time to adapt to modern life. Our bodies and nervous systems are still running 300,000-year-old software in a completely different world.
That's why so many modern health crises (chronic stress, sleep disorders, metabolic disease, disconnection, anxiety) are thought to be rooted in this mismatch.
So of COURSE I’ve felt like I don’t fit in! NONE OF US DO.
And it’s all moving so fast OF COURSE I feel like I can’t keep up.
But also…. do I even WANT to evolve to adapt to this modern world? Do i WANT to keep up?
I’m still on nature’s time… not Australian Eastern Standard Time with a five day work week and an iPhone that tells me when it’s time to catch the bus 🫠
I don’t know about you but that makes me feel a lot better about my intermittent feelings of disconnection to the world we live in.
And I know what people say…. we can’t go back.
But what if we moved forward AND put our relationship to nature first?
(Which, by the way, includes us. WE ARE NATURE)
The way I see it, we’re all the same. Made up of the same elements, breathing the same air, seeing the same stars. We’re all animals, trying to survive and, even better, thrive on this super-intelligent Earth. I think coming back to that simple truth is how we WILL thrive, long term - individually and together 💜
So, for me, this album marks a turning point. A deepening of awareness that I don’t want to blindly follow the aspects of progress that don’t put the natural world first. I want to choose, with clear intention, how I spend my time, energy and money - and how I spend the Earth’s resources.
My body is the most beautiful machine I will ever hold. This Earth is the most beautiful machine that holds ME. Love is a verb, so I will do what I can to give more than I take 💜
Giving back to the Earth
Pressing albums on vinyl is not only expensive, it’s incredibly carbon intensive too.
It takes approximately 2 tonnes of CO₂ to press, package and deliver 1000 copies of the album on vinyl (to put that into perspective, the average Australian car emits approximately 2.5 tonnes of CO₂ each year).
That’s not cool.
So, $1 from each sale of this vinyl is donated to Greenfleet.
Greenfleet is an environmental not-for-profit organisation that has delivered climate action for over 25 years. They plant native, biodiverse forests in Australia and New Zealand to restore nature and capture carbon emissions. Protected for up to 100 years, these forests restore habitat for wildlife and help fight the impacts of climate change.
(Greenfleet also works closely with a number of Traditional Owner groups and acknowledges that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are the longest standing land managers in the world ❤️💛🖤)
It costs $22 per tonne to offset carbon emissions with Greenfleet, it takes 2 tonnes of CO₂to deliver 1000 copies, and for each 1000 vinyl sold I’ll be donating $1000 - so $1 per vinyl donated is 22.72x the offsetting minimum… which means the vinyl production is Carbon negative. It gives back more than it takes from the Earth 🙌
That IS cool.
I know this might seem weird…
I just want to say…. I know this might seem weird!
Some random singer-songwriter popping up in front of you on the internet, telling you all about her feelings, offering you her new album on vinyl with free shipping and a big bunch of downloads 🤔
Why should you trust me?? And what kind of proof is there that this album is even any good?
Well, let me answer those questions for you 😊
Actually, I’ll let some of my fans answer them ❤️
There are SO MANY more messages, comments, emails and conversations like this ✨
Actually, the response to BEAUTIFUL MACHINE is the exact reason I’m now plastering this album all over the internet 😂
I’ve been seeing these songs resonate with people, all around the world, ever since I released it in March.
I’ve had people tell me that it expresses exactly how they feel, that it’s inspired them, made them think more deeply, and helped them make decisions that feel truly aligned.
I’ve had people tell me that singing along to these songs reminds them who they are.
I wrote them to remind myself who I am… so that makes sense… and I’m sparkling with happiness that it’s resonating so much ✨🌳
Making BEAUTIFUL MACHINE was one of the most liberating things I’ve ever done
For as long as I’ve been writing songs I’ve written them first on guitar or piano, then worked with other musicians and producers in the studio to get that “studio finished sound”.
For this album, for the first time ever, I asked my producer (Clare Reynolds aka LOLLIES) to write the music for me first - and then I wrote all the lyrics and melodies on top of that music.
I wanted to be moving while I wrote. I wanted to be in nature. I wanted to feel my body working while I created.
(Yes I know, I wrote a couple of songs on the couch in my underwear.… but a girls gotta rest too)
This felt SO freeing. As I listened to the music, I moved, I felt it, and I let my body connect to nature while I figured out the exact words I wanted to use to get the stories and messages across.
Lyrics are SO important to me, and I’m beyond proud of the lyrics throughout this album. It feels like beautiful, powerful poetry, with gorgeous music underneath 🥰
THEN, once everything was written, I set up a dodgy-looking but great sounding home recording booth in the spare room of my house and recorded all the vocals (I did this mostly in my underwear too 😹)
Almost all the vocals you’ll hear on this album are mine - except for two little cameos in the song Shoulda Coulda Woulda. One from Clare as a judgmental angel, and one from Jordie Lane as a greedy devil 😇 😈
The “Cup of Tea” Guarantee
I believe in this album so much that, if you don’t absolutely love it, I’ll give you your money back… times two!
Just send me an email, tell me how much you hate it, and I’ll happily refund you twice as much as you paid for it.
Seriously. I won’t even be offended! You’re taking a chance on me & this album, and the risk shouldn’t be on you. If it’s not your cup of tea, no worries. It’s my 200% money back, guarantee 🫖
The Songs
Here’s the album track-listing, and a little bit about each song, so you know what to expect 😊
💫 BEAUTIFUL MACHINE - I feel like this is one of the most important self-love songs I’ve ever written, because self love (in my opinion) also about love for the earth and all of humanity
👠 UPGRADING - the story of a woman deep inside the party lifestyle and drug addiction, and wanting to feel alive again
💃 DANCING WITH THE DEVIL - about the push and pull of working as an artist, trying to have a positive impact on the world and working inside the music industry - where some people are most definitely having a negative impact on the world
🏹 ACHILLES’ HEEL - this song was inspired by the story of Achilles’… an invincible and immortal Greek God…. Until his enemy discovered that he had one weak spot (his heel) and shot him dead. My weak spot is people pleasing (I’m working on it!)
🎲 WASTING TIME - this is one of my favorites on the album... about becoming so focused on surviving and thriving in the future that you (I) end up over-working, anxious and not in the present moment making decisions that are ACTUALLY going to help me and others survive and thrive. It’s about getting trapped in the rat race and reassessing what building a good life actually means
💰 SHOULDA COULDA WOULDA - I wrote this song while I was contemplating my mortality. If my time on Earth is limited, how do I want to spend it, and what really matters?
🌊 UNDERTOW - a song about letting go of regrets and trusting the twists and turns and flow of life
🥦 IT’S DIFFERENT THIS TIME - all about quitting the self help industry, and stopping trying to “fix” myself… accepting that I am always a work in progress, and always perfect wherever I am, and as I am
🏆 I THOUGHT I COULDN’T DO IT (BUT I DID!) - I think I was writing my future in this song…. Looking back and seeing that I created the life I wanted and needed, in my own way, on my own terms
💜 CRIMINAL - a love letter to my body
When you order you'll get the 12” vinyl with a fold out lyric booklet, digital downloads for Beautiful Machine + bonus downloads for two mini-album’s, my mini E-book “Quiet Revolution” AND free shipping 🎁
Congratulations! you read until the end of the page! 🙌
